ABSTRAK This article aims to show that the sift definition of S}ah}aba isn’t only caused by the saving of the sound hadith, but also fighting against the counterfeit companions of the Prophet. There are many definitions of companions (s}ah}a>bah). Each definitions has its consequence to the auteticity of hadith. It was the larger definition and the confined one. The larger definition the bigger opportunity to save the hadith of mursal. On the contrary, the more confined definition, the tinier opportunity is.
